NEW WORKS

In my new series “MY DAILY DOSE,” my subjects are greatly enlarged tablets and their packaging. I understand them as symbols and methods of self-determination and control that directly influence our self-image and societal expectations. They embody an idealized vision of beauty, health, and identity.

They occupy the most space on a comparatively small wooden cube. They appear to float beneath a dome of several layers of clear resin on uniformly textured surfaces. Or do they seem frozen and immobile, prisoners of their own world?

Dietary supplements for a healthier, longer life, younger skin, anabolic steroids, hormones, and potency enhancers for better performance in sports and sex… The German market for dietary supplements alone continues to grow; estimates for 2023 are around €1.78 billion, with a projected increase to approximately €2.05 billion by 2028.1

Are we not enough for ourselves? Can‘t we bear to be „real“?

Every day we have to ask ourselves and those around us different questions, explore sources, and gather diverse experiences to shape ourselves and discover our own truths. We can decide whether we want to make things visible or keep them hidden.

The 1999 film „The Matrix“ is iconic: It‘s about the choice between living in illusion and conformist comfort (the blue pill) or awakening to and recognizing the uncomfortable reality (the red pill).

Reality and the associated image of humanity are multifaceted and uncomfortable.
We have a choice.

Landscape

Landscape

The origin and development of the expression landscape is attributed to the free common land, the adjacent national territory and a place of well-being on one hand. To me important is the connection between the collective/the neighbourhood, the territorial rule and the spatial name landscape itself. The meaning of both word parts is defined by the human task to create, add and form.

Demarcating objects and places are the subjects which I explore in my series Zones: An old tennis net in an abandoned garden, a table and a chair on my balcony, a floating tent in a park.
