Fast, bright, clear images on screens shape our daily life – the exact contrast to what my art introduces you to.
Stills and scenes, captured in gloaming light, reproduced on large paper and canvases come to life through my multi-layered manual work. I am transforming photographs into oil stick and pastel works on paper, which become structured, tangible and transport the spaces around the image in a breathtaking intensity between space and time.
Like smells and sounds, space encapsulates a feeling, a memory – non-graspable, impossible to name, but familiar. Stillness is filling ones space.
The origin and development of the expression landscape is attributed to the free common land, the adjacent national territory and a place of well-being on one hand. To me important is the connection between the collective/the neighbourhood, the territorial rule and the spatial name landscape itself. The meaning of both word parts is defined by the human task to create, add and form.
Demarcating objects and places are the subjects which I explore in my series Zones: An old tennis net in an abandoned garden, a table and a chair on my balcony, a floating tent in a park.
At the moment I am exploring a lot of new motives which will be seen during my upcoming first solo show 2024, in Hamburg.
